Summer Scholarships Scheme 2011-2012

Summer scholarships offer senior students the opportunity to undertake a supervised research project for a period of approximately 10 weeks (minimum 400 hours) during the summer.

Applications close on 26 August at 5pm and no late applications will be accepted. Each scholarship is valued at $5000.

A service will be held to celebrate Christopher's life at Westpark Chapel, 467 Wairakei Road, Burnside, on Thursday 11 August at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Young NZ Foundation would be appreciated and may be made at the service.

The University provides a range of support services to students.

Your UCSA has a great welfare and advocacy team. The Health Centre provides professional counselling services and the UC Student Support team are there to offer support whenever you need it.

Sustainability Retreats

A programme focusing on change for students.

Free to all UC students, the Eco-Change Agents programme is designed to encourage those who are enthusiastic about strong sustainability to become empowered to create change.

Run by the UC Sustainability Office as a series of retreats in August (26th-28th) and September (2nd-4th), the programme also gives students a chance to spend two nights in the stunning Cass Valley at the UC Cass field station, with yummy vegetarian meals included (byo home-brew and FT chocolate) and a wicked soundtrack courtesy of the trains.

Applications extended until 15 August 2011.

Quick queries cover any question on writing or study that can be answered in up to 10 minutes. Drop in to 75 Clyde Road between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday, for a chat with a learning advisor in the student area. There is no need to book in advance, and students see a learning advisor on a first-come, first-served basis.

UC student Jamie McCloskey and former STAR student Logan Glasson (Burnside High School) have both won bronze medals at the prestigious International Olympiad of Informatics (IOI) competition in Pattaya, Thailand.

Christchurch City Council Market Research

Christchurch City Council is running a survey about attitudes and behaviours affecting learner and restricted driving licence holders. More information is available here.
